Exchange System Manager changes languages when you upgrade to Exchange Server 2003 (830187)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to Exchange Server 2003, the default language in Exchange System Manager changes to match the language of the operating system. This issue occurs on Windows 2000 Server-based computers that have one of the following items installed: - Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI)
- Traditional Chinese (CHT)
- Chinese Simplified (CHS)
- Korean (KOR)
CAUSEThis issue occurs because the operating system is set to a language that Exchange 2000 does not support. When you perform the upgrade to Exchange 2003, and the language is supported in Exchange 2003, the upgrade automatically changes the language that is used by Exchange System Manager to the language that is used by Windows 2000. Exchange 2003 continues to use English as the user interface language, but the language change in Exchange System Manager occurs regardless of the language that Exchange 2000 Server used.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue on a computer that has the Multilingual User Interface Pack installed, change the user interface language to English. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Regional Options.
- On the General tab, click to select English in the Menus and dialogs list, and then click OK.
- Log off, and then log on to the computer as the same user.
Note The user interface language is determined by a setting in each user account. REFERENCESFor additional information about the Multilingual User Interface Pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
