Not all files that the Systems Management Server 2003 site server client share contains are copied to a remote management point client share (830024)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you install a remote Microsoft Systems Management Server management point on a remote server that is not the Systems Management Server 2003 site server, only the Client.msi file is copied to the client share (SMSClient\i386) on the remote management point server.

CAUSE

Only those files that must be on the client share to perform a push installation of the Systems Management Server 2003 client are copied to the client share on the Systems Management Server 2003 remote management point. In this case, Client.msi is the only required file.

Other files that the Systems Management Server 2003 site server client share contains, such as Capinst.exe and Smsman.exe, are not run directly from a remote Systems Management Server 2003 management point share. Therefore, these files do not have to be copied to the remote management point client share.

Although Ccmsetup.exe is not copied to the remote management point client share, when you perform a push installation of the Systems Management Server 2003 client, Ccmsetup.exe is copied from the Bin\i386 folder on the Systems Management Server 2003 site server. Ccmsetup.exe is not copied from the management point client share.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
