SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Office 2003, when you try to connect to your Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 document library or to your backward-compatible Web storage-based document library for Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you receive the following error message:
To connect to the backward-compatible document library, you must install the client components of the document library component for Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003.
As a result, you can no longer access your document library by using the current network shares and you cannot create a new connection to your document library.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 client components for backward-compatible document libraries. This reinstalls and re-registers the client components that Office 2003 Setup removed.
You can install these components from the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 CD-ROM. To install these components, click
Install optional components on the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 startup screen that appears when you insert the CD-ROM, and then click
Install client components for backward-compatible document libraries.
You can also obtain these components from the Microsoft Download Center. To obtain these client components, click one of the following links, as appropriate to your language settings:
