Run Advertised Programs Tool Unexpectedly Quits When a User Runs a Program and You Upgrade the Systems Management Server Client at the Same Time (829818)

SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 client tries to use the Run Advertised Programs tool to manually run a program from SMS, the following behaviors may occur in the order that they are listed in the following list:
  1. The program starts to download from the SMS server.
  2. The user receives an error message that is similar to the following error message:
    SmscliUI cannot be controlled.
  3. The Run Advertised Programs dialog box quits unexpectedly (crashes).

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you upgrade SMS 2003 Legacy Client to SMS Advanced Client at the same time as the user tries to manually run a program from the SMS server. After the client upgrade is completed, the Run Advertised Programs dialog box works correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, the user must restart the Run Advertised Programs tool, and then rerun the advertised program.
