ALT+F6 Keyboard Shortcut Performs a Different Action in Visio 2003 Than in Word 2003 (829619)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you open a drawing in Microsoft Office Visio 2003 and you press ALT+F6, you increase the magnification level of (zoom in to) the drawing that is currently active. This behavior is different from the behavior that occurs when you use the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut in Microsoft Office Word 2003. When you open multiple documents in Word 2003, you use the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut to switch between the documents that are open. When you open multiple drawings in Visio 2003, you do not use the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut to switch between the drawings that are open. You use the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut to zoom in to the drawing that is currently active.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut in Visio 2003 zooms in to the drawing that is currently active. You cannot use this keyboard shortcut to switch between drawings if multiple drawings are open. The action that the ALT+F6 keyboard shortcut performs is different in Visio 2003 and in Word 2003.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use either of the following keyboard shortcuts to switch between drawings when you open multiple drawings in Visio 2003:
  • Press either CTRL+TAB or CTRL+F6 to switch between the drawings that are currently open.
  • Press either CTRL+SHIFT+TAB or CTRL+SHIFT+F6 to switch between the drawings that are currently open in reverse order.
