You Receive the "Syntax Error Converting the Nvarchar Value..." Error Message When You Try to Generate a Database in the Spanish Version of Visio Enterprise Architect 2002 (829331)

SYMPTOMS

The following symptoms may occur when you try to generate a database in the Spanish version of Microsoft Visio Enterprise Architect 2002:
  • Microsoft Visio may generate an incorrect SQL code.
  • The database is not generated.
  • You may receive an SQL error message that is similar to the following:
    Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '10;2' to a column of data type int.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • Your database model has the Decimal option selected in the Type box in the Definition area of the User-defined types dialog box.
  • The list separator on the Numbers tab in the Customize Regional Options dialog box is not a comma (,).

    To view your current list separator, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.
    3. Click Regional and Language Options.
    4. On the Regional Options tab, click Customize to view the List separator on the Numbers tab.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visio for Enterprise Architects 2002 service pack that contains this hotfix.
