You cannot find stencils when you use Shape Search in Visio 2003 (829234)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Shape Search to search for stencils and masters in Microsoft Office Visio 2003, the stencils are not found.

CAUSE

The language ID (LCID) for new stencils is different from the UI language of Visio. By default, the LCID for new stencils is set to the language of Windows.

For example, if you use an English-language version of Visio and a Japanese-language version of Microsoft Windows, the LCID for all new stencils is 1041 (Japanese LCID) instead of 1033 (English LCID). Shape Search filters on the LCID of the stencil and of the masters.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the language of the new stencil to language of your version of Microsoft Office, and then save the stencil. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the drawing, and then click Shape.
  2. Click Custom Properties.
  3. Click the language that you want, and then click OK
