Inherited rights to resource gallery items in an edit session do not apply after you install MCMS 2002 Service Pack 1 (829146)

SYMPTOMS

After you apply Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1), some of your authors or editors may not have the rights to browse the resource gallery after the authors or editors log on to MCMS 2002 edit sessions to create content or to edit content.

CAUSE

In versions of MCMS that are earlier than MCMS 2002 SP1, users can access resource gallery items because MCMS 2002 guest user rights imply rights to the resource gallery. However, this functionality creates a potential security issue, and the behavior has been changed in MCMS 2002 SP1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:
  1. Log on to Site Manager as an MCMS 2002 administrator.
  2. In the left column in the Site Manager window, click User Roles.
  3. In the User Roles column, click either Authors or Editors.
  4. Right-click either the Authors rights group or the Editors rights group, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Group Rights tab.
  6. Make sure that the Authors rights group or the Editors rights group is granted rights to the resources. To do this, click to select the Resource Galleries check box that is next to the Authors rights group or click to select the Resource Galleries check box that is next to Editors rights group.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

You only experience this problem if you do not explicitly grant your authors and editors rights to the resource gallery in the Authors rights group or the Editors rights group.
