The folders and their contents are deleted when you delete shortcut folders from the Picture Shortcuts task pane in Picture Manager 2003 (828496)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2003

SUMMARY

When you add a shortcut to the Picture Shortcuts task pane in Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2003, you can select the folders and the subfolders at the location that is defined by the picture shortcut. If you delete these folders from the Picture Shortcuts task pane, you are actually deleting the folders and all their contents from their physical location on either a local or a network drive. This does not occur when you remove (not delete) a top level item in the Picture Shortcuts list because they are just shortcuts to the physical locations and not actual representations of the physical locations of files and folders. When you remove a Picture Shortcut, the entry is removed from the list and there is no effect on the actual file system.

MORE INFORMATION

When you delete a folder (not Picture Shortcut) from the Picture Shortcuts task pane, a message will appear that warns you that you are actually deleting files (not just removing a shortcut from a list). The message is different depending on whether the drive the folder resides on is local or a network drive. If you try to delete a folder that resides on a local drive, you receive the following message: Confirm Folder Delete: "Are you sure you want to remove the folder '<folder name>' and move all its contents to the Recycle Bin?" If you try to delete a folder that resides on a network drive (such as a SharePoint picture library), you receive the following message: Confirm Folder Delete: "Are you sure you want to remove the folder '<folder name>' and all its contents?"Note For network folders, after you click Yes to confirm the folder deletion, the files are deleted from the network drive and they are not moved to a Recycle Bin. If the folder contains more than just images that are currently being previewed, you receive the following message before the Confirm Folder Delete message: Verify Folder Contents: "The selected locations contain files and subfolders that are not currently being previewed. Please verify the contents of the selected locations before deleting them. To view the other files, on the View menu click Show Pictures Only."Whether or not a folder appears under a particular picture shortcut depends on if it has been hidden at the file system level. You can change the properties of a folder in Windows Explorer so that it is "hidden". If it is hidden in Windows Explorer, it will also be hidden in Picture Manager.

Note You may have to update picture shortcuts in Picture Manager.
