The default file type is Single File Web Page when you save a presentation as a Web page in PowerPoint 2003 (827764)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you click File, and then click Save as Web Page to save a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation as a Web page, the default file type is Single File Web Page, and the default file name extension is .mht or .mhtml. You expect the default file type for a Web page to be an HTML file and the file name extension to be .htm or .html, as it is in PowerPoint 2002.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the MHTML format is the default file type for the Save as Web Page option in PowerPoint 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the General tab, click Web Options, and then click the Browsers tab.
  3. Click to clear the Save new Web pages as Single File Web Pages check box.
  4. Click OK two times.

Method 2

In the Save as type list, click Web Page (*.htm; *.html).

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
