Outlook 2003 closes if you immediately try to restart the program after you exit Outlook and cancel the offline synchronization (827598)

SYMPTOMS

If you quit Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, cancel the offline synchronization, and then immediately start a new instance of Outlook 2003, Outlook 2003 quits after five seconds.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2003 requires five seconds to completely shutdown after you cancel the offline synchronization.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, allow for a minimum of five seconds after you cancel the offline synchronization before you restart Outlook 2003.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
