Fast Forward and Rewind Buttons Do Not Work in Windows XP Media Center (827543)

SYMPTOMS

When you play a video file (such as a .wmv file)in Windows XP Media Center, the fast forward and rewind buttons do not work.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the movie stream is not indexed. Media Center can only fast forward or rewind movie streams that include an index track. Index tracks enable programs such as Media Center to seek to a specific point in the movie file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
