Composite PostScript Publication Prints as RGB Composite Instead of as CMYK Composite (827466)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a publication as composite PostScript, the publication may print as red-green-blue (RGB) composite instead of as the expected cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK) composite.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • In the Color Printing dialog box, the color model is set to process colors.

    -and-
  • You do not change the output type to Composite CMYK in the Advanced Print Settings dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To print your publication as CMYK composite, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print, and then click Advanced Print Settings.
  2. Click the Separations tab, and then click Composite CMYK in the Output list.
  3. If you know that you will typically be printing CMYK composite from Microsoft Publisher, you can click to select the Print composite CMYK by default check box.
  4. Change any other settings that you want to change, and then click OK.
  5. Make any other setting changes that you want to make in the Print dialog box, and then click OK.
The publication now prints as CMYK composite PostScript.

In Publisher 2003, you can set the color model that is used to design the publication independently from the color model that is used to print the publication. For example, you can design a publication in RGB and print it as process color separations.

To select the color model that is used to design the publication, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Commercial Printing Tools, and then click Color Printing.
  2. Under Define all colors as, select the color scheme that you want. If your selection includes spot colors, you can click New Ink to define spot colors.
  3. Click OK.
The option that you select under Commercial Printing Tools affects only how the color picker works. To configure print settings, use the Advanced Print Settings dialog box. By default, Publisher prints as RGB composite because that is the optimal choice for desktop color printers.
