Web page files are not cleaned up when overwritten by subsequent exports in Visio 2003 (827249)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, after you save a file by using theSave as Web Page command, if you subsequently save the file again as a Web page and specify a different output format, the thicket (the set of files and folders that are created when a document is saved with the Save as Web Page command from a Microsoft Office program) from the original export is not cleaned up. The files that are associated with the original output format are not deleted.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you save the Visio 2003 file as a Web page with an alternative output format selected, and then later decide to reduce the size of the thicket by removing older browser support. When you try to save the file (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page, and then click Publish), and you click to clear the Provide alternate format for older browsers check box (on the Advanced tab), when you view the thicket after you save the file, the alternative output format files that are associated with the original file save operation still remain.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • When you click the Save as Web Page command to publish the file as a different output format, save the file to a new file name.

Note This is the recommended workaround.

    -or-
  • Save the file by using the same file name and then manually delete the extra files that are in the original output format from the thicket.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
