FIX: Storage Cards That Are Formatted to Use the FAT File System May Become Unreadable Under Windows CE .NET 4.1 (824842)

SYMPTOMS

Windows CE .NET 4.1 automatically creates an extended partition on any storage card that is formatted to use the FAT file system, if there is sufficient unused space available on the card. Later, such a card may become unreadable under Windows CE .NET 4.1.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This hotfix prevents Windows CE .NET 4.1 from automatically creating an extended partition. If a card was modified to include an extended partition before you applied this hotfix, and the card has become unreadable, the card can be read after you apply this hotfix.
