Computer Stops Responding When You Try to Wake It from Standby (824728)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you try to wake your computer from standby, it may stop responding, or "hang," if the computer is just entering standby.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you press the power button while the computer is entering standby if the power button is configured to shut down the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:
  • Do not press the power button while the computer is entering standby.
  • Configure the computer to go on standby when you press the power button. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. In the When I press the power button on my computer list, click Standby, and then click OK.
