FIX: The Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 1 hotfix rollup package is available (824704)

SYMPTOMS

When using Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 1 (SP1), developers may notice the following problems in their runtimes:
  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) printers cannot be selected on runtimes that contain the Server Printing component.
  • The Display item in Control Panel does not execute on runtimes that contain the Display Control Panel Applet component.
  • Root-level shares cannot be created on runtimes that contain the Administration Support Tool component.
  • The Microsoft Script control is not available for use on runtimes that contain the Windows Script component.
  • SQL integration to Banyan Vines networks does not function correctly on runtimes that contain the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) component.
  • The Remote Assistance Help files do not appear or do not function correctly on runtimes that contain the Remote Assistance Channel component.
  • Many error messages with Event ID 877 are logged on runtimes that contain the Application Compatibility Core component.
  • The Swflash.inf file is missing from runtimes that contain the Shockwave Flash component.
  • The Msmsgs.inf file is missing from runtimes that contain the Microsoft Windows .NET Messenger component.

CAUSE

These problems occur because registry resources or file resources are missing from the components that are listed in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
