The Computer Name Is Not Displayed in the Title Bar of the Log On to Windows Dialog Box (824690)

SYMPTOMS

If you add the Welcome string value to the following registry key on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 and then set the value to %ComputerName%, the computer name is not displayed on the title bar of the Log On to Windows dialog box:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Currentversion\Winlogon

Although the computer name is not displayed in the title bar of the Log On to Windows dialog box, it is displayed as expected in the title bar of the Windows Security dialog box, the Computer Locked dialog box, and the Unlock Computer dialog box.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Welcome string value is incorrectly processed by the Msgina.dll component.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
