SYMPTOMS

After you remove a domain from Active Directory in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, when you try to rebuild an Active Directory domain tree with the same name as the original domain, the HasMasterNC attributes for specific server objects that are in the Active Directory Configuration container are corrupted.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the removal of the original domain has not replicated throughout Active Directory before you create the new domain that uses the same name as the original domain.

RESOLUTION

Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, demote all domain controllers from the new domain to member servers, wait for replication to complete successfully throughout the Active Directory forest, and then promote the member servers to domain controllers in the new domain.
