Error Message When You Try to Mount CD (824361)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to mount a CD, it may not be recognized by Virtual PC. You receive the following error message:
CD-ROM_Drive_letter:\ is not accessible

CAUSE

This behavior occurs for one the following reasons:
  • The ISO 9660 File Access and File Exchange extensions are not loaded.
  • You are using FWB Software's CD-ROM Toolkit under the Mac OS.
  • The CD was burned using the incorrect format or the CD was incorrectly burned.
  • The CD was burned at a speed that was too fast for your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM to mount.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: ISO 9660 File Access and File Exchange Extensions

For more information about ISO 9660 File Access and File Exchange extensions, see the following AppleCare Knowledge Base documents. To do so, visit the following Apple Web sites:

Method 2: CD-ROM Burning Problems

To make sure that a Virtual PC can read a burnable CD, follow these steps:
  1. Burn the CD by using the Hybrid file system format.
  2. When you select the speed for the CD, select a mid-range speed or a slower speed. Not all CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives can read the faster speeds of the newer CD burners.
  3. Let the CD-burning software verify the CD after you burn it.
  4. Test the CD on an actual Microsoft Windows-based PC to make sure that the Windows operating system can read the CD.
For more information about using CD-burning software, see the documentation that came with your software.
