To make more space available, delete any items that you are no longer using or move them to your personal folder file (.pst). Items in all of your mailbox folders including the Deleted Items and Sent Items folders count against your size limit. You must empty the Deleted Items folder after deleting items or the space will not be freed.
See client Help for more information. Microsoft has released a software update that includes a new feature that lets you change the default behavior so that mailbox warning messages are not sent from the Exchange system administrator account. By default, warning messages are sent from the Exchange system administrator account to warn the user that the mailbox has surpassed the warning size limit or the size limit. The mailbox size limit is specified on the Exchange General tab for a mailbox-enabled user in the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. MORE INFORMATIONSoftware update informationA supported feature that modifies the product's default behavior is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to modify the behavior that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that specifically require it. This feature may receive additional testing. Therefore, if the system is not severely affected by the lack of this feature, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this feature. To obtain this feature immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. After you install the software updateWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. After you install this software update, you must create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry for each mailbox store on the Exchange 2000 Server computer so that mailbox warning messages are not sent from the Exchange system administrator account. When you create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry for a mailbox store, the warning message is not sent to the mailboxes in that mailbox store.
If you do not want warning messages to be sent to more than one mailbox store, you must add the Disable Quota Messages registry entry to each registry subkey that represents a mailbox store on the Exchange 2000 Server computer. For example, if you have two mailbox stores on your Exchange 2000 Server computer, you must create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry in the Private-<First Mailbox Store GUID> subkey. Then, you must also create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry in the Private-<Second Mailbox Store GUID> subkey. To create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<Exchange Server Name>\Private-<Mailbox Store GUID> Note You must create the Disable Quota Messages registry entry in each registry subkey that represents a mailbox store that you do not want to send mailbox warning messages to. - On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, type Disable Quota Messages, and then click the Disable Quota Messages registry entry.
- Right-click the Disable Quota Messages registry entry, and then click Modify.
- In the Value Data area, type 1, and then click OK.
Note When you disable this warning message functionality, you can write a program that monitors the mailbox table and that compares the mailbox size to the mailbox size limit. The program can then send a custom message to a mailbox when the mailbox reaches a specific size.
