Cannot Administer Exchange 5.5 Message Transfer Agent Queues by Using the Exchange Administrator Program (824213)

SYMPTOMS

When you follow these steps, you receive an error message:
  1. You install the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.
  2. You use the Administrator program to try to connect to a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
  3. You try to view the Queues tab in the properties of the Exchange 5.5 computer's Message Transfer Agent object.
The error message that you receive is the following error message:
The administrator program could not connect to server Exchange_5.5_Computer_Name. Be sure the message transfer agent service is running on Exchange_5.5_Computer_Name.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
