A meeting is canceled after you receive both a meeting update and a meeting cancellation in Outlook 2003 (824097)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager

SYMPTOMS

A meeting is canceled after you receive both a meeting update and a meeting cancellation in Outlook 2003When you accept a meeting cancellation that has a time and date stamp that is before a meeting invitation that you have already accepted for the same meeting, the meeting cancellation removes the meeting from your Calendar.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2003 can only process Calendar events in the order that they are processed by you. If you accept a meeting invitation, and then you accept a meeting cancellation, Outlook 2003 updates the meeting information first, and then it cancels the meeting from the calendar, even though the meeting cancellation was sent before the meeting update.

The Calendar events may be processed out of order when both the meeting cancellation and the meeting update are sent to you at the same time, one directly to your e-mail address, and the other through a distribution list that contains your e-mail address.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
