Views in the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) Inbox are not retained (823756)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you make customizations to your Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) Inbox, the views are not saved after you log off the network.

CAUSE

When you use roaming profiles, the views in the IMAP Inbox are not retained between network sessions. The views for the IMAP Inbox are stored in the .pst file; this folder does not roam. When you log on the network, a new .pst is created. The view that is displayed in the IMAP Inbox is the default view. The default view does not have the changes you specified in a previous session.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • When you are working over a WAN or LAN use the offline folder files (.ost files) to allow the remote client to work without being connected to the server.
  • If you are in an enterprise, use Microsoft Outlook over WAN or LAN links. It is more efficient to run the Microsoft Windows Terminal Server service, either on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or better yet, on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, than it is to use an .ost file.

MORE INFORMATION

The .pst file is created in the Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.
