"Outlook does not Recognize One or More Names" Error Message When You Send an E-mail Message (823662)

SYMPTOMS

When you send an e-mail message, you may receive the following error message:
Outlook does not recognize one or more names.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Outlook Address Book has become corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the Outlook Address Book, and then reinstall the Outlook Address Book. To do so, follow these steps:

Remove the Outlook Address Book

  1. Start Outlook 2002.
  2. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  3. Click View or change existing directories or address books, and then click Next.
  4. Click Outlook Address Book, and then click Remove.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. Click Finish, and then restart Outlook 2002.

Reinstall Outlook Address Book

  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
  2. Click Add a new directory or address book, and then click Next.
  3. Click Additional Address Books, and then click Next.
  4. Click Outlook Address Book, and then click Next.
  5. Click OK, and then restart Outlook 2002.
