FIX: MSXML 2.6 is not redistributed with SQL Server MSDE SP3 or SP3a (823490)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft XML 2.6
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) SP3a
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) SP3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) Release A
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) SP3

SYMPTOMS

If you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Service Pack 3a (SP3a) on a computer that does not have an earlier version of MSDE installed, and does not have Microsoft XML (MSXML) 2.6 installed, and you try to use an XML feature that is implemented by MSDE, you receive the following error message:
Failed to load Msxml2.dll
Note Examples of XML features are OPENXML and sp_xml_prepareddocument.

CAUSE

The MSDE SP3 or SP3a Setup programs do not redistribute MSXML 2.6 (msxml2.dll).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Note You cannot apply this hotfix on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer or a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
