How to Determine Whether You Have a Retail or Enterprise Edition of Microsoft Project

Although both the Retail and the Enterprise editions of Microsoft Project are almost the same, there may be situations when you have to determine the edition that is installed on your computer. Use one or more of the following criteria to determine your edition of Microsoft Project:

Microsoft Project SKU
Name of the .msi file on the Microsoft Project CD-ROM
Activation requirement
Installation source

View Microsoft Project SKU

There are multiple Microsoft Project stock-keeping units (SKUs) that are available for Microsoft Project 2003. The following table lists the Microsoft Project SKUs that are available for Retail and Enterprise editions.

View Name of .msi File on the Microsoft Project CD-ROM

The name of the Windows Installer .msi package file that is located on the Microsoft Project CD-ROM varies, depending on the edition of Microsoft Project. The .msi file is located on the root of the Microsoft Project Standard and Microsoft Project Professional CD-ROMs, and in the Prjsvr folder of the Microsoft Project Server CD-ROM. The following table lists the different .msi file names and the editions that they represent.

You can determine whether you have an Enterprise or Retail edition of Microsoft Project from the source of your Microsoft Project installation. If you install Microsoft Project from either of the following two sources, you have an Enterprise edition of Microsoft Project:

Network administrative installation
Web address by means of a browser

These installation sources can be created only by using an Enterprise edition of Microsoft Project.
