SYMPTOMS

After you configure the energy-saving settings for a liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor by using the following steps, some portable computers that are running Windows XP SP1 may enter a state where the monitor does not turn on again, even though you press a key on the keyboard.
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Power Options. The Power Options Properties dialog box appears.
  2. Under Plugged in, set Turn off monitor to After 1 min.
  3. Wait for the monitor to turn off after 1 minute.
  4. Close the lid of the portable computer.
  5. Disconnect the computer from the power source.
  6. Open the lid of the portable computer.

    The monitor may not come on, even after you press a key on the keyboard.

CAUSE

This error results from a process timing issue for the LCD Power revert in Windows XP SP1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, create the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
LidCloseSetPower
