The information in this article applies to:

  • MSPRESS Microsoft Step by Step Interactive Version 4

SYMPTOMS

V4- Network installation with Windows Media Player 9 installed on client's machine does not work as expected for audio based courses. If a client tries to hit an audio course over an http server and they have Media Player 9 installed on there machine, the simulation will hang after the flash intro plays for any topic. The problem appears when trying to receive an .asf (advanced streaming file) file.

V4 - Single Station installation with Windows Media Player 9 installed works as expected.
V4 - Single Station/Network text version works as expected.

- If the server machine has Media Player 9, this does not affect the client's machine unless the client's machine has Media Player 9. - If a client has Media Player 9, but only loads the text based course, the course functions as expected.

RESOLUTION

  • Use Text version instead of Audio version
  • Use Single Station install instead of Network client
  • Uninstall WMP 9
This applies to all SBSI V4 titles shipped.
