Third-Party Applications May Expose Transport Bug (822909)

SYMPTOMS

A transport bug in Exchange 2000 Server may cause streaming database (.stm) file corruption. Reproduction of this bug is difficult. However, this bug typically involves either applications that use Distributed Authoring Version (DAV) to submit mail or applications that use transport sinks. You receive error -613 : JET_errSLVReadVerifyFailure when you perform online backups.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the hotfix that is listed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

In addition to the problem that 814891 describes, third-party applications that use either DAV or transport sinks can expose this bug. Some examples of applications that may expose this bug include:
  • Antivirus applications.
  • Anti-spam applications.
  • Applications that add a disclaimer to a message.
  • Applications that archive messages.
