SUMMARY

Microsoft has adopted a standardized naming schema for all hotfix packages (patch or update) for Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server that are created and distributed by Microsoft. The new naming schema goes into effect for ISA Server hotfix packages as of June, 2003. This article contains information about the new standardized naming schema for ISA Server hotfix packages.

MORE INFORMATION

An ISA Server hotfix is an executable (.exe) file that contains one or more system files that you can apply to ISA Server to correct a specific problem. Hotfixes are distributed by Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) to customers who are severely affected by a specific problem. Updates that are publicly available are hotfixes that Microsoft recommends for all customers. You can obtain these updates from the Microsoft Office Download Center Web site, the Microsoft Download Center, or from other Microsoft Web sites.

Microsoft has adopted the new naming schema for ISA Server hotfix packages for the following reasons:
  • It creates consistency across Microsoft hotfix packages.
  • It improves the ability to search for hotfix packages and Microsoft Knowledge Base articles.

New Schema for Naming ISA Server Hotfix and Patch Packages

ISA Server hotfix packages are named by using the following schema:

ProductName-KBArticleNumber-x86.exe

This is an example of a hotfix package under the new naming schema:

ISA2000-KB123456-x86.exe

The following list provides information about each attribute in the new naming schema:
  • ProductName
This attribute describes the full product name, including the product version information. For ISA Server hotfixes, the product name is ISA2000.
  • KB
This attribute indicates that an article exists in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that is associated with the hotfix.
  • ArticleNumber
This attribute describes the ID number of the Microsoft Knowledge Base article that is associated with the hotfix.
Note The naming schema for ISA Server hotfix packages does not use a language attribute to specify the language that the update applies to. ISA Server hotfix packages use a multi-language installer. ISA Server hotfix packages apply to all languages.
