This article describes the known limitation of the Based On level functionality with SQL Server Accelerator for Business Intelligence (SSABI).

The Based On level is the link between two hierarchies in a single dimension. Generally, you link hierarchies at the lowest (most detailed) level. There is a known limitation when you use the Based On level functionality with SSABI. When both the primary dimension hierarchies and the Based On level hierarchies of a dimension are included in a cube, and you specify a level for inclusion in the cube other than the default level of the Based On level hierarchy dimension as determined by SSABI, Analytics Builder Workbook generates the application successfully, but the cube may not function correctly. The following are some problems that you may experience:
  • You may not be able to save any modifications to the cube structure when you edit the cube from the Cube Editor of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Manager.
  • You may receive the following error message when you validate the cube structure in the Cube Editor of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Manager :
    There is a loop in the schema. Please remove the extra joins.
To avoid these problems, specify the default level for the Based On level hierarchy dimension as determined by SSABI.
