Intermittent and Unpredictable Results Occur After You Update the Audio Driver for Sound Blaster Live! (821995)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you update the audio driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Live! midi synthesizer, you may receive intermittent and unpredictable results when you use Creative Sound Blaster Live! with Windows XP.

CAUSE

Sfman32.dll is updated during the installation of the Sound Blaster Live! software. Because .dll files are critical system files, the Windows File Protection (WFP) feature protects them from being replaced. After Sfman32.dll is updated, WFP replaces the updated file with the original protected version of Sfman32.dll. After WFP replaces the file, there is a version conflict between the Sound Blaster Live! drivers.
