You cannot perform an unattended reset of the site server connection account in Systems Management Server 2.0 (821962)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 SP5

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0, including versions through Service Pack 5 (SP5), does not offer an unattended procedure to restart or change the server connection account. You must manually run the SMS Setup program at each site server computer in your hierarchy. This requirement can cause high labor costs if you have many sites in your SMS environment.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
Date Time Version Size File name
   --------------------------------------------------------------
   14-Jul-2003 16:20 2.0.1493.5011 855,312 Preinst.exe
   14-Jul-2003 16:20 2.0.1493.5143 3,118,240 Setup.exe
The Setup.exe program now supports two additional command-line parameters:
  • The /resetsite switch.
  • The /nouserinput switch.
You can use these switches to reset the site and the site server connection account in attended mode. To use these switches, use a command syntax that is similar to the following, where domain is your domain, and account and password are the new site server connection account and password that you want to use:

Setup.exe /resetsite /nouserinput /ServerAccount domain\account /ServerPassword password

Note You must use the /nouserinput switch with the /resetsite switch. If you use the /resetsite switch by itself, the Setup.exe program will exit silently and will not reset the server connection account. To confirm that the account is reset, review the Setup.log file on the destination computer for any errors or warnings. The Setup.log file is located in the root folder of the destination computer.

For additional information about command-line parameters for Setup.exe, see the Microsoft SMS Security Essentials white paper. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS
