FIX: Multiple Instances of a File are Found (821708)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2

SYMPTOMS

If multiple BIN regions (that is, regions for .bin files that use the Windows CE binary image data format) contain different files that all have the same name, duplicate file names are displayed in File Explorer.

The FindFirstFile function and the FindNextFile function may find multiple instances of these files.

CAUSE

When two files have the same name, one of them can hide (also known as shadow) the other. This problem occurs because different files that have the same name and that exist in multiple BIN regions are not being correctly shadowed.

RESOLUTION
