FIX: The Inetinfo.exe process may experience an unhandled exception when it uses the Internet Printing Internet Server API (ISAPI) in heavy load (821426)

SYMPTOMS

The Inetinfo.exe process may experience an unhandled exception when it uses the Internet Printing Internet Server API (ISAPI) in heavy load. You may receive the final entries in the event log with Event ID 204:
The HTTP server encountered an unhandled exception while processing the ISAPI application
WINSPOOL + 0x1402D
WINSPOOL!OpenPrinterW + 0x4E
msw3prt!GetExtensionVersion + 0x493
msw3prt + 0x7883

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of a fault in the parsing logic in the Msw3prt.dll file. The Msw3prt.dll file does not NULL terminate requested paths.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
