FIX: Screen Saver Takes a Long Time to Engage When Windows Media Player 9 Series is in Full Screen (821368)

SYMPTOMS

The Allow screen saver during playback option in Windows Media Player 9 Series allows a screen saver to appear while the Player is playing content. When this option is selected and the Player is playing content in full screen mode, the Player drops out of full screen mode several seconds before the screen saver timeout is reached. After the Player is out of full screen mode, the client must wait another timeout duration before the screen saver engages.

CAUSE

When the Player comes out of full screen mode, the Player makes Windows API calls that reset the screen saver timer.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note In some instances on all platforms, the pre-fix behavior persists. For example, the behavior may persist when you play back audio content with complex visualizations. Examples of complex visualizations that are included with the Windows Media Player 9 Series are Battery and Ambience.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
