SYMPTOMS
When ASP.NET generates a page that contains client-side
SCRIPT elements, the
SCRIPT elements do not contain a
TYPE attribute. The generated
SCRIPT tag follows:

According to the HTML 4.01 and HTML 4.0 Transitional specifications, the
SCRIPT element should have a
TYPE attribute as follows:

The hotfix described in this article refers to the default client-side
SCRIPT element that ASP.NET generates. It is also possible for
ASP.NET-based applications to override the
RegisterClientScriptBlock method of the page. After an override, ASP.NET is no longer
responsible for the content of the
SCRIPT element that results.

To resolve this problem, apply the following hotfix package:
827164 FIX: References to STA objects that are stored in session state may become corrupted if they are called from a Session_End event
The .NET Framework version 1.0
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 1.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
