Description of ink annotations in a TIFF file created by Office Document Imaging do not appear on fax after being sent as an attachment in Office 2003 (820589)

SYMPTOMS

When you make ink annotations to a Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) file graphic on a Tablet PC, and then send it as an attachment to a fax by using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the fax arrives at the recipient without the ink annotations. If you preview the fax before you send it by using Outlook 2003 in Microsoft Office Document Imaging, the annotations will be present on the TIFF file pages.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2003 removes the ink annotations from the TIFF file before it faxes the document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging to fax the TIFF file and not lose the ink annotations. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Locate the TIFF file image that you want to fax, and then click Open.
  4. On the File menu, point to Send to, and then click Recipient using Internet Fax Service.
  5. Fill out the cover sheet, if present, fill in the fax subject and fax number, and then click Send.
