  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you modify the location of the message queue in the X.400 Properties dialog box in Exchange System Manager, when you try to modify the path to restore it to the original location (typically, C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mtadata), you receive the following error message:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

Facility: Win32

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the folder where you want to store the X.400 message queue is not empty.

You cannot use Exchange System Manager to move the message queue to a location that is not empty. This is true even if you want to restore it to the original location.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Windows Management Instrumentation moveMTAData method to programmatically move the message queue to the folder that is not empty.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
