FIX: The C++ compiler quits unexpectedly when you use a valid negative mov offset statement in inline assembly code in Visual Studio .NET 2003 (818823)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, if you use a valid negative mov offset statement in inline C++ assembly code, and then you try to compile the application, the compiler quits unexpectedly (crashes).

The following sample code generates the compiler error:
void blah(void)
{
    _asm
    {
        mov eax, offset Blah - size BLAH
    }
}

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
