Visio Quits Unexpectedly and Event ID 1013 Is Logged When You Connect a Team Frame Shape to a Superior Shape in Your Organization Chart (818793)

SYMPTOMS

In your Visio organization chart, when you try to connect a Team frame shape to a shape that represents its hierarchical superior, by dragging the control handle of the superior shape to a connection point on the Team frame shape, you experience the following symptoms:
  • Visio quits unexpectedly.
  • An event that is similar to the following is logged in the Application event log:

  • When you view the list of processes that are currently running on your computer in Task Manager (press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click Task Manager, and then click the Processes tab), Visio.exe appears in the list.

CAUSE

This problem occurs in situations when ReleaseObject() is incorrectly called after the shape is removed from memory. As a result, Visio incorrectly processes the connection to the Team frame shape from a shape that represents its hierarchical superior.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Visio 2002 service pack that contains this fix.
