This article lists the software requirements that you must have to successfully implement Microsoft Solution for Internet Business versions 2.1 and 2.5. This article also includes the optional software configurations.

You can use one of the following three configurations to implement Microsoft Solution for Internet Business version 2.1:

Development configuration (DEV)

For your development environment
This typically has the software installed on a single computer.

Base Reference Architecture configuration (BRAC)

For smaller deployments (4-5 servers)
The base deployment uses a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server as a firewall to separate and help protect the Web servers from the Internet. Each Web server has two network adapters: one for client communication and one for cluster management and database communication.

Enterprise Reference Architecture configuration (ERAC)

For larger deployments (15-20 servers)
Essentially, the enterprise deployment is an expansion of the base deployment. However, the enterprise deployment has increased security, manageability, availability, and scalability.

You can include additional servers to reduce the single points of failure in your system and to improve performance. The enterprise deployment includes an additional firewall between the Web and data tiers, and separate domain controllers for each tier.
