USB Devices Do Not Immediately Work After You Resume Your Computer from Hibernation (818342)

SYMPTOMS

When you resume your computer from hibernation or from standby, your universal serial bus (USB) devices, such as the mouse and the keyboard, may not immediately work.

CAUSE

When an Intel ICH5 (I/O Controller Hub) system is in an S4 (hibernation) state, and then you resume the system from hibernation by using a USB mouse, there may be a significant delay (anywhere from 20 seconds to 35 seconds) before any USB devices will work. This problem occurs only on systems that are designed to resume with a USB mouse.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, press the power button to resume the computer from hibernation.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
