XL2002: English and Japanese Chart Label Text Is Misaligned (818214)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you create or print a chart that contains both English and Japanese label text, the Japanese label text is aligned lower than the English label text.

The text may also appear misaligned when you copy the Excel chart object and paste it in a different program (for example, Microsoft Word).

CAUSE

This problem may occur when either of the following conditions are true:
  • When you use a small font size (by default, the chart label font size is 8 point). This problem may vary depending on your zoom settings.

    -or-
  • When you use a font where Microsoft Windows cannot display all the text of the chart label. When this problem occurs, Windows may substitute a different font (in a close font family). As a result of this font substitution, some characters may not align correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • Use the Arial Unicode MS font.

    -or-
  • Use 10 point or larger font size.

    -or-
  • On the Edit menu, click Paste Special, and then click Picture (Enhanced Meta File), instead of Microsoft Excel Chart Object.

Note The result of this workaround is a static picture, not an OLE object that you can activate and edit.
