BUG: Web page file names are not customized when you save a Publisher 2003 Web site (817373)

SYMPTOMSAfter you save your publication as a Web page in Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 by using the Save As dialog box, you do not have customized page names that were specified by using Web Page Options. Instead, the names of the Web pages resemble the following: page00001.htm.CAUSEThis problem occurs because Publisher 2003 lets you to save a Web site in a rich Web format. This format lets you edit the Web site directly in Publisher 2003 without any conversion. Therefore, Publisher uses the following naming format when saving in the rich Web format: page 0000# .htm/.html. This format does not use the customized page names that are specified in Web Page Options.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must use the
Publish to the Web feature in Publisher 2003.
When you publish a Web site using Publish to the Web on the File menu, the Web site is saved in a filtered HTML format. The file names for the Web pages follow the following naming format: PageTitle.htm/.html. This format does use the customized page names that are specified in Web Page Options. To use the Publish to the Web feature, follow these steps: - On the File menu, click Publish to the
Web.
- You receive the following message: To publish your Web site to the World Wide Web, you need to
subscribe to a Web hosting service. A Web hosting service provides Internet
access and storage space on Web servers. If you do not have a Web hosting
service, you can find one by browsing Office Tools on the Web.

again. Click OK. - To save your Web site to your Web hosting service, click
My Network Places, and then click the Web folder that you want
to save to.
To save locally on your hard disk, select the location on
your hard disk. - Click Save.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a
bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to"
section.
