MSMQ: 0xC00E00018 Error When You Install Portuguese (Brazilian) Microsoft Windows XP (817295)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error if you install the Portuguese (Brazilian) Windows XP as a client against a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft Message Queuing 1.0 server.
0xC00E00018 (MQ_ERROR_ILLEGAL_PROPERTY_VALUE)

CAUSE

When you set up a Windows XP client against a Windows NT 4.0 Message Queuing 1.0 server (Primary Enterprise Controller or Primary Site Controller), the Windows XP client creates a "Type" string as part of the computer record. The "Type" string contains the type of installation, operating system, and Message Queuing version. The client sends strings up to 154 UNICODE characters, while the server rejects strings longer than 154 bytes. The problem occurs on a Portuguese (Brazilian) client, because the Portuguese (Brazilian) string is slightly longer than the English string. The Portuguese (Brazilian) string is 78 characters. This is one character longer than the server's maximum. As a result, the server rejects the request, and setup fails.
