SUMMARY

The user account that you use to upgrade a Key Management Service (KMS) component of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) must have Enterprise Administrator rights.

MORE INFORMATION

Security enhancements that were first implemented in Exchange 2000 Server SP3 require you to have Enterprise Administrator rights to upgrade KMS components.

The upgrade process relies on the Microsoft Windows Certificates Server. However, the Windows Certificates Server is not part of the Exchange organization. Therefore, you must have Enterprise Administrator rights to modify certificates and objects in the configuration container.
