XADM: Exchange 2000 Does Not Accept Anonymous Access to Mailbox Resources (817201)

SUMMARY

All users who access Exchange 2000 mailbox resources by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) must be authenticated by the Microsoft Active Directory directory service.

MORE INFORMATION

While you can grant anonymous access by modifying permissions on mailbox resources, Microsoft does not recommend this option because it can cause the information store database to become corrupted. Microsoft does recommend that Exchange Installable File System (IFS) remain the sole master of permissions on drive M.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
