Installation files are not removed at the end of the installation in Office 2003 (817115)

SYMPTOMS

After you install a Microsoft Office 2003 program and follow these steps, all the cabinet files that are copied to the local hard drive during Office Setup should be removed:
  1. Install an Office 2003 Program.
  2. Click Delete Installation Files at the end of Setup.

    All cabinet files are removed.
  3. Install a different Office 2003 program that shares cabinet files with the first installed Office 2003 Program.
  4. Click Delete Installation Files at the end of Setup.

    Shared cabinet files between the two Office Programs that are installed will remain on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Disk Cleanup tool. To do so, follow these steps.

Note The Disk Cleanup tool is available in Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
  1. If you have more than one hard disk or partition on your computer, follow these steps to determine the hard disk that you must clean up.

    To do this, you must locate the Msocache hidden folder. To locate the Msocache hidden folder, follow these steps and do not delete this folder manually by using Microsoft Windows Explorer:
    1. Click Start, click Search, and then under What do you want to search for, click All files and folders.
    2. In all or part of the file name box, type Msocache.
    3. Click More advanced options, and then click to select the Search hidden files and folders check box.
    4. Click Search.

      Make a note of the drive where you found the folder, close the Search window, and then go to step 2.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs (in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, point to All Programs), point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
  3. In the Select Drive dialog box, click to select the drive that you that you found in step 1, and then click OK.
  4. On the Disk Cleanup tab, click Office Setup Files on the Files to delete listing.
  5. Click OK.
